Jamie on Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots, often styled as tøp, is a two person band from Ohio. The band consists of Tyler Joseph, the singer, however, he also plays the ukulele, piano, keyboard, bass guitar and accordion, and Josh Dun, who plays the drums. They don't tend to have a genre of music that they fit into, even writing a song about it, 'Lane Boy', after being asked by countless interviewers about where they fit in the world of music. Even the song 'Lane Boy' itself has a mixture of reggae, rap and bass. As of 2015, Twenty One Pilots have released four albums, the first two, Twenty One Pilots (self-titled album) and Regional as Best were self released, while the second two, Vessel and Blurryface, were released after they were signed by record label Fueled By Ramen.
Their first album, the self-titled album, was released December 29th 2009. Josh Dun was not a member of the band at the time and the band consists of Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih (Thomas and Salih left the band due to busy schedules). The album became increasingly popular after tøp's success after their third album, Vessel. The album has a mixture of different songs from harmonies such as 'Oh Ms Believer' to more jumpy songs such as 'The Pantaloon and 'Johnny Boy'.
Their second album, Regional at Best, was released July 8th 2011. This is the first album which consisted of Joseph and Dun, the current members of the band. The majority of the songs on the album were first drafts of some of the songs on Vessel such as 'Trees' and 'House of Gold'. In November 2011, they played a sold out show at Columbus, Ohio's Newport Music Hall attracting the attention of a dozen record labels. Although many labels fought over the band, it was ultimately decided that they would sign to the Atlantic Records subsidiary label Fueled by Ramen.
Their third album, Vessel, was released January 8th 2013 and was the album that brought them a lot of success. The band had their first radio hit with 'Holding Onto You' as well as success with singles 'Guns For Hands', 'Lovely' and 'Car Radio'. In May 2013, Fall Out Boy announced that Twenty One Pilots would be touring with them as an opening act with Panic! At The Disco and the Save Rock and Roll Tour the following autumn. However, their success on Vessel wasn't revealed until 2014, where they were invited to mainstream festivals such as 'Lollapalooza', 'Bonnaroo' and 'Firefly', all while releasing music videos for 'Truce', 'Migraine' and 'Ode to Sleep.'
Their fourth album, Blurryface, was released May 15th 2015 and quickly went to No. 1 in the Billboard 200. They released three singles before releasing the album, 'Fairly Local', 'Tear In My Heart' and 'Stressed Out.' They released Blurryface four days earlier than they said as a surprise for their fans. The band finished their Blurryface World Tour in November 2015, having cancelled the rest of their European Tour but promised to be back in February.
During the Blurryface World Tour, the popular social media site 'Twitter' released an update which gave user the ability to make surveys, starting with two choices and closing after 24 hours. Joseph and Dun had fun with this update making surveys about each other before realising there was two options in the surveys and two of them. They decided to created a survey on the band's twitter account and put Tyler as one option and Josh as the other. The survey ran for 24 hours, during which both members of the band released campaign videos and videos dismissing the other candidate. It was decided the loser had to have the other person's name tattooed on themselves. The survey ended 50/50 meaning that both Tyler and Josh had to have each others names on tattooed.
